Change WLAN to WIFI?

I've just bought an iPad 3 here in China (the purchase experience online was excellent; my US-account and billing worked perfectly from the China store).

I'm North American, though, and so everywhere that WIFI should appear in North American localization, WLAN appears like on all my Aussie colleauges' iStuff. All my other iStuff are in proper North American English (meaning, proper for North America, not per se).

Am I missing a setting somewhere? I was pretty sure all the firmwares are universal, so I've not tried downloading a new iOS and restoring, but I suppose I would if I knew that that were the only solution.

Really? No one else has ever bought a foreign iPad and wanted to change WLAN to WIFI for US localization?

Are you having a problem connecting to WiFi? Or are you just concerned that the terminology is different? If the latter, I imagine most people don't give it much thought.

What are you talking about? Rephrase your question and maybe someone can help you better. WLAN is a WIFI lan. So your question does not make much sense, at least to me.

When I first read this, I thought you needed an answer quickly, then saw you first posted this almost a month ago so you're still dealing with this issue.

The problem is  - you might ask a question that will appear on the top of the list so it will get many views and hopefully helpful responses. However, so many ques. are asked on a 24/7 basis, that your question can be many pages back in a short amount of time and not /hardly viewed.

I suggest responding to this in about six hours. It will then be about 7:00 pm in US - East Coast time. Many who are more knowlegeable tend to get on in PM. They might read your post and then help you.

I'm not sure what help you need in that I can't be sure if it's what you're seeing on your computer, or if you don't have the internet connection you need through wireless which is a subset of wlan. (?)

What about a reset? Hold down sleep and home button at same time (ignore the slider that will show up) until the Apple logo appears. Does that help?

Have you called Apple support in China? Does your ipad 2 have any problems? If not, what if you compare every setting to your new ipad? They might tell you to do a restore, but make sure you back up everything on your ipad to the cloud first.

Guys, I'm talking about localization. That means the text that appears in the user interface. I'm North American, and standard North American English uses the term WIFI. I have an iPad that I bought from Apple in Shanghai. Despite setting all of the US English settings that I could find, I still have some remnants of International English localization. Specifically, instead of WIFI in settings, I have WLAN.

I knew it! I had just gotten off 'location services' in discussions after I sent the above post thinking there might be an answer. None. However, a couple of the people I think are very helpful are answering posts now (under last post, it gives the persons screen name.

Keep your discussion going. There must be an answer!

If it were my iPad, I certainly wouldn't be expending any energy on this. However, if it's important to you, I'd restore it as new.

I feel your pain. I have just bout an Iphone 7 from china and live in the UK. it say WLAN instead of WIFI and here seems to be an issue with connecting to WIFI ect. I am in the process of restoring and speaking to Apple- ill let you know if anything comes of it..

Were you able to get a solution? My roommate brought her phone from China and once she enters the house, the rest of our Devices get disconnected.
