some items in itunes library were not copied

My former ipod Nano 7th generation  died, so I now must use an old iPod 5th generation. I want to copy my music library to the 5th gen. My music files all have an ! at the left of the file name. I cannot drag/drop the music files. I also have tried using strategies from two youtube articles but my experience does not match the authors experience.

How can I get my music from my iTunes library that exists on my laptop, to my 5th gen?
