Apple DEP
as stated in this article https://help.apple.com/deployment/business/?lang=en-gb, when editing a MDM Server on deploy.apple.com there should be an option to select "Automatically Assign New Devices" - this seems however not to be the case do I overlook anything?

From my experience you do this from within your MDM solution. Might be a typo?
Are you purchasing the devices through the DEP, or just apple.com/Apple Store?
No, I need to edit the mdm server object within deploy.apple.com in order for having all the devices which has been registered for my company id automatically be associated with my mdm server.
the option is available when adding a new mdm server, but I dont see the option when editing the server
devices is purchased through various resellers which is then associating them with our company id in dep
wrong account.
I only have one mdm server and that might be where the disconnect is. The option you are referring to is only available with more than one mdm server I believe.
This is your issue. DEP must be purchased directly through Apple's business channels. It will not work to purchase through resellers or even off the shelf at Apple/apple.com. You can still add them to your MDM directly, but you cannot use DEP or deploy.apple.com to get them in there.
This isnt accurate. Any authorized re-seller can be added to you DEP portal. Apple or Verizon are good examples of authorized resellers. You simply ask your reseller if they work with DEP. When you purchase from them in the future those devices are automatically associated. In
We have never been able to get them to work. We can't even get them to work straight from Apple unless they are purchased directly through the business unit on our account.
No, that is not it. The process of getting devices into dep works from other resellers, I just have to annually assign devices to my mdm server on deploy.apple.com, as I did not select the "Automatically Assign New Devices" when creating the mdm server object on deploy.apple.com. the support article states that this should be possible - but I doesn't seem to be the case
It *should* be possible, but we have several devices that we added manually to our MDM, but we cannot get added to DEP. They will be retiring soon, so we won't have the issue much longer as we only buy through Apple Business now.
Have you tried contacting apple dep support? 866-752-7753
I have your answer! After running into the same issue and nearly resigning myself to setting up the MDM relationship all over again, all you have to do is click the little phone icon to the left of the MDM server name entry on the "Manage Servers" page. See screenshot -- the icon turns green when devices are auto-assigned.
