iPhone in/out calls show on iPad. Handoff is OFF.

Okay, this is weird. I just noticed that ever since I upgraded both my iPhone 5s and my iPad Air 2 to iOS 10.3.1,  ordinary incoming/outgoing calls to/from my iPhone have been logged in FaceTime on my iPad, in the "Audio" column.  Not just calls to/from people with iPhones. Also included are calls to/from landlines and people with Android phones. To the best of my knowledge, the iPad hasn't "rung" when any of the incoming calls came. It just seems to be logging everything.

  • Handoff is not not enabled on either device, nor has it ever been.
  • In the FaceTime prefs on the iPad, "Calls from iPhone" is not enabled.
  • On on the iPhone, FaceTime only shows actual FaceTime Audio calls I have made or received, in the "Audio" column.

I still have AppleCare on these, and plan to call them tomorrow. In the meantime, does anyone here have any ideas about this?

Thanks,

DM

I called Apple Support. The guy was nice, and attempted to help, but he seemed totally perplexed by the idea that phone calls on my phone would be logged in the Audio tab of FaceTime on my iPads (when, in fact, this is precisely how the"Calls on Other Devices" feature is implemented). Not surprisingly, his suggestion was that I do a factory reset on my phone.

I finally stumbled onto a fix on my own. The obvious advice usually given in threads like this is "turn off 'Allow Calls on Other Devices.'" Well, as mentioned in the OP, that setting was already off on my iPhone. So I decided to try switching it on and then back off again.

When I switched it on, an "Allow Calls On" section was revealed, containing slide buttons for the other devices logged in to my Apple ID  (iPads, Macs). They were all in the "on" position. I turned them all off, and then turned "Allow Calls on Other Devices" back off. Thus far, calls to/from my iPhone have stopped appearing in the FaceTime Audio call logs on my other devices.

This is clearly a bug in iOS 10. If the main slide button is off, the positions of the other buttons (which are then hidden) should be irrelevant.

On your iPhone, check Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices.  Undoubtedly that explains exactly what you're observing.

Thanks for the reply. I just double-checked that, and it's already off.

Well, I spoke too soon. The problem persists.

What's even worse is that when I delete the calls from the FaceTime Audio log on either of my iPads, those calls are also deleted from my iPhone's Recents list! So now I have no record of them at all. Thanks a bunch, Apple. (And yes, I know they don't read this board.)

Finally I just went to Settings->FaceTime and switched the FaceTime slider button off, on both of my iPads. I don't use it on them anyway, but I guess I can momentarily turn it on if I ever need to.

The sad irony of "It Just Works" becomes ever greater...
