Parental Controls Over iMessage

I recently signed my 11-year-old daughter up with a managed Apple ID through the Family Share feature. She also has a user account on our family Mac that she wants to link with her new Apple ID (she does not have an iPhone or iPod Touch). In setting up parental controls for her user account, I cannot find any options for iMessage other than limiting it completely. In the past editions of the OS, one could limit messages to allowed contacts, as can still be done with Mail. Does anyone know if this option still exists in macOS 10.12.6 for iMessage or even Facetime? We'd love to have her be able to text us and her grandparents and a few friends, but not open it up to anyone and everyone who might have her number.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

I have not tested this for a while.

Parental Controls used to block Buddy Names or rather Allow the ones you wanted.

These might well have also been Contacts  but were a long way of allowing every Contact.

The fact that potentially every Contact can be an iMessage Contact using and Apple ID or iPhone Number I am not sure that it has that fine a tuning any more.

I will change one of my Test accounts to Managed and see what happens.

Hi,

On checking there are no Parental Controls for Messages in Sierra.

I am not aware of when it ceased to be.
