Mail app in Sierra started acting out recently

How do I permanently disable Mail organize messages by conversation. I have been using Sierra from the start and this is only happening in the last couple of weeks: I have to manually un-check View>Organize by conversation few times a day.  It is annoying and caused me to miss few important e-mails.
