I am on a Mac Pro (2013)

PROCESSOR: 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5

MEMORY: 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

GRAPHICS: AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB

I made a backup of my old Mac Pro, on an external hard drive.

I attached the external hard drive to my new Mac Pro and the information migrated perfectly.

I need the space on the external hard drive, so I moved the backup file to the trash.

I cannot empty the trash — I receive messages that items are in use, or that it would be a security breach to delete some file.

There are hundreds of thousands of folders in the backup (backups.backupdb).

How can I force the trash to empty??

BTW, I have tried holding down the control key, but nothing changed.
