10.13 freezing daily

On my 2012 MacBook Retina, I have been having the OS freeze pretty much daily since the 'upgrade' to 10.13/high sierra. 16GB 768GB SSD

Wondering if any others are seeing a similar issue here?

Basically a spinning beachball appears, no keyboard access, tracked or mouse works for a minute of two, then that stops as well. The apple-option-esc and apple-option-esc-shift combinations have no effect

only recovery is holding down the power button until it restarts

free disk space down to about 23GB, but that was not an issue before 'upgrading'

seems to happen on application switchers

two environments

one with a dell external monitor, VGA

one with a apple lighting display

one with wired ethernet, one with wireless
