Using a Late 2013 iMac as a display for 2017 iMac

I have a Late 2013 iMac that the HD failed, and I would like to use it as a second display for my 2017 iMac.

1. How can I do this?

2. Will I be able to have different content on each display?

3. Will the 2013 iMac automaticaly sync with the 2017 when they are powered and connected?

says to use a Thunderbolt cable, but the 2017 iMac uses Thunderbolt 3.  There is a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, but it may not work for video.

If it doesn't work directly, it might work if you connect a Thunderbolt device (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the adapter and the 2013 iMac.

2. Yes, if the connection works.

3. No, you have to press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the 2013 iMac.
