How can I delete dropbox? When I try, I get a message that it can't be deleted because it's open. I don't think it's open, but if it is, it won't let me in to close it.

Assuming you are talking about Dropbox.com, then try uninstalling it first

<Uninstall Dropbox – Dropbox>

If that doesn't work, then make sure Dropbox.com is not running

Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor

In the upper right "Search" box, enter "dropbox"

Select each Dropbox process and Click on the (X) box in the upper left (see icon marked in Red)

If necessary use "Force Quit"

You should be able to delete the Dropbox.com's folder

If you are NOT talking about Dropbox.com, then you will need to be more specific.

First, you must quit Dropbox. Second, if you have installed the Dropbox menu bar item, then click on the tool icon on the top right and select Quit from the menu that appears. Third, open Users & Groups preference panel, click on the Login Items button on the top right and Delete [-] the Dropbox item from the list. Fourth, restart the computer. Fifth, delete the Dropbox app from the Applications menu.

If you know how to use Activity Monitor to kill running processes, then rather than restarting the computer you can kill the two Dropbox open processes in AM's applications column.

I finally got around to this last weekend. Force quit was the ticket. Thank you very much.
