CLOSE button hovers in front of everything

MacOS 10.12.6, MacBook Pro 2015:

For the past 2 weeks or so, I have had a small text box, black text on white background, floating above everything else on my screen. The word "CLOSE" appears in the box. I cannot select to box to drag it aside, and rebooting has no effect.

I suspect that this is caused by a program that's running in the background, perhaps one of those "auto-loaded at login" items. But I'm wary of deleting one of those that could prove to be important.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Uh... while I was typing this message, the item disappeared! Thanks everyone!    I have a feeling it will be back.

Please download and run EtreCheck, created by one of own helpers here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.
