For some reason the last month of photos is now...

Tried to start backing phone up to iCloud after buying more storage. Set the photos to do the same. Seems some of the photos went to the cloud because there was enough space for an update, which was done. Now the last month of photos and videos are all missing. Can anyone help with locating them?
