Problems with miniDP HDMI adaptor to HDMI resol...

Hi

I have a mid-2009 15" MBP and an external Dell 25" monitor and I'm having some issues with the monitor always going into Power Save mode at random times. Then I have to unplug it from the laptop and after a few replug tries, it comes back.

The monitor is connected to the laptop using a cable that came with the monitor, one end a miniDP port and the other end going into the monitor using the DP connector.

I wanted to try using HDMI to see if I have the same issues, but when I connect using HDMI, the resolution is lower!

I bought a miniDP to HDMI adaptor for the laptop side and then using an HDMI cable I connect to the monitor. But where as using the miniDP to DP cable I get a 2560 horizontal resolution, using the HDMI cable I just get a 2048 resolution.

I guess my question is if there is a max resolution using HDMI or I should be able to go higher with the resolution?

I have tried pressing the Alt-key when pressing the Scaled radio button in Display preferences and also booting in Safe Mode. But I am not seeing the higher resolutions when using HDMI cable.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.
