Why does Reminders on iMac work bizarrely?

To add a reminder, I click on the + button in the upper right corner. A circle with a flashing cursor appears. I type the first letter of the heading …… and the page suddenly disappears and the "Scheduled" page appears with a list of other reminders if any.

I scroll my way back to the last reminder on the "Reminders" list, click on it and the reminder appears with the letter I had first typed. I position the cursor after the letter and then am able to complete the heading.

Why does this app work in such a bizarre manner? Can it be fixed?

Mark reminders completed

To indicate that a reminder is done, mark it as complete. The reminder is saved, but it’s hidden in the list. You can scroll to the top of a list to see its completed reminders.

Mark reminders as complete

  • From a notification: Click Complete in a reminder notification when it appears in the top-right corner of your screen.
  • One reminder: Select the circle next to the reminder’s name.
  • Multiple reminders: Select the reminders, then select the circle next to one of their names (or tap the Checkmark button in the Touch Bar).
  • All reminders in a list: Control-click the reminder list in the sidebar, then choose Complete All Reminders. If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.

If a reminder is set to have repeated notifications, and you mark it as complete, the reminder for that day moves to the completed section of the list. The reminder for the next repeat date appears in the reminders list.If you complete a reminder whose last notification you chose to ignore, you won’t be notified about the reminder again. For information about ignoring a reminder notification, see Respond to notifications.

View completed reminders

  • View completed reminders in a list: Scroll to the top of the list until you see Completed, then click Show.
  • View all completed reminders: Select the Scheduled reminder list, scroll to the top of the list until you see Completed, then click Show.

Mark a reminder as incomplete

You can mark a completed reminder as incomplete so it appears in your reminder list again. If the reminder was set to have repeated notifications, that setting is removed.

  1. Scroll to the top of the reminder list until you see Completed, then click Show.
  2. Do one of the following to mark reminders as incomplete:
    • One reminder: Deselect the circle next to its name.
    • Multiple reminders: Select the reminders, then deselect the circle next to one of their names (or tap the Checkmark button in the Touch Bar).
    • All reminders in a list: Control-click the reminder list in the sidebar, then choose Uncheck All Reminders. If you see Complete All Reminders instead, hold down Option to see Uncheck All Reminders.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, but it does not answer the problem. It is when I try to create a NEW reminder that the problem occurs. Please keep that in mind and reread my original posting. An answer to this problem would be helpful, because as it is, I avoid using Reminders because of its arcane mysteries.

Instead of clicking the + sign at the top, try clicking in the empty line below your last reminder. Type in the reminder, then slide the cursor to the right until you see the i surrounded by a circle. Click on that and finish setting up the reminder.

When reminders are created , example the first on as " h " and second one as  " various "you have to fill up the credentials location , repeat ...and if you don't check mark the small circle to get it completed .Otherwise it will switch downwards .

In the above two screen shots " h " is in second position and in another first .

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your solution may be the way the app was meant to work, though it doesn’t seem at all intuitive to me. It would seem that each time one wants to add a reminder for a particular day, one should just click on the + button, and then go ahead and type in the message. New reminders for that same day can be added by the method you recommend.

I see that clicking on the + button creates new lists and not just new reminders. The method you recommend works once there is a message already entered, but this seems complicated and more like a work around than a thoughtful feature. I still don’t get why the page disappears at the first character typed in after clicking on the + button like I described earlier, and why the "Scheduled" list page then appears. It just seems so bizarre that this app may have been designed to work this way.

Thank you anyway. Maybe one day Apple programmers will fix this. In the meantime, I’ll just live with it or find some other app that works the way human beings actually expect things to work.

Thank you, again, but apps that are so complicated to use are not very useful. I will just add reminders in Calendar, which has a reminder feature.
