Battery status menu percentage showing incorrec...

macOS Sierra 10.12.6, on a barely month-old Macbook pro 15" with Touch Bar.

battery percentage display was stuck at 38% charged for ~30 minutes. I forgot about it, until computer display switched off (battery finally ran out obviously, but up til a minute of it doing so the menu bar was still displaying 38%). plugged in the battery cable and it is still showing 38%. if I open Energy Saver Preferences in System Prefs it shows the accurate battery charge.

this is not the first occurrence of the menu bar displaying incorrectly. I have shut down/restarted the machine 4-5 times since starting to use it, and sometimes it will display correctly. This is the first time it has unsuccessfully notified me of the battery dying.

will try System Management Controller (SMC) reset, am also currently downloading macOS High Sierra 10.13 to see if it patches the bug permanently.
