itunes crash on start only when internet connected
Recently updated iTunes to 12.33 from 12.3 on a Dell Windows 7 machine. Now it crashes on startup, but runs ok if I disconnect ethernet. But this is not very useful, since I use it to serve up my music and videos to an AppleTV that is connected to home entertainment system via local network. Followed the troubleshooter instructions to do full uninstall and reinstall, then updated all drivers from Dell web site. Tried disabling firewall. Problem persists. Called in to Apple Support. They walked me through all those same steps all over again and when that failed they say "not our fault, contact Microsoft". Any suggestions out there? I could find a download of a previous version of iTunes on the internet, but I'm nervous about getting a hacked version. Is there a reliable source for previous versions?
Try Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support. Does the problem persist in a new profile?

I have followed all the steps in that troubleshooter. Creating a new user does resolve the problem. However, when I go back to the user account with the problem and create a new library on startup, as instructed, iTunes just crashes again shortly after the window opens. The troubleshooter doesn't say what to try in that event.
Scroll down to where it reads User-specific issues and work from there.

Yes tried all that. Still crashes.
Will iTunes open in its safe mode in your profile? Sometimes it will open normally after using safe mode.
If you can get it open either in safe mode or by disconnecting from the Internet you can try Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Cache and see if that has any impact.
If that doesn't work type %appdata% in the start menu search box and press enter. Rename the Apple Computer folder as Apple Computer Old. This will reset preferences for all Apple software in your computer. If that works you can move the MobileSync folder from Apple Computer Old into Apple Computer to restore your iOS device backups.

Thanks for sticking with me! Summary: complete uninstall, deleting Apple folders and fresh install did not help. safe mode does not work. renaming the iTunes folder and starting a fresh one does not work. disconnecting internet works. making a new user and starting even with internet connected works. Your two latest suggestions to reset the cache and renaming the Apple Computer folder did not work either. Clearly, something about my main user profile related to internet access that we haven't yet identified is the problem. Any other suggestions?
Does your account use a proxy server?
Do you have a third party firewall?
Does it help to disable the built-in Windows firewall?

I'm having the same issue, and similarly it started when I updated to 12.3.3.17 on Dell Windows 7. Uninstall, safe mode, new library etc. don't work, but disconnecting internet does. I can't create a new user on this computer as that's disabled, but it sounds like the same problem as rj1933 is having. I have the Windows Firewall which I can't turn off due to security restrictions but I've enabled Bonjour and iTunes both to go through it and take incoming connections, and it's still broken.
I don't use any proxy server, but I've found in Internet Explorer (not my default browser) that it had an automatic proxy script. After seeing some of the other threads on this forum, I'm going to try rolling back to an older version of iTunes until Apple fix this. I'm also annoyed that after spending a couple of hours on the phone with Apple support staff, none of them were aware of this apparently common issue.
See iTunes installers section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for download links and advice. If you're rolling back from 12.3.3.17 to 12.3.2.35 then you'll also need to roll back the library database in the way described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Rolling back to 12.3.2.35 seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for posting these previous versions!
You're welcome.

Is Apple going to solve this issue? It's been three months that I can't update or listen to iTunes. It crashes when I have my Internet connected and works fine when it's disconnected. It has nothing to do with the library being corrupted (I have created a new library and still doesn't work) and I have tried every possible solution available (removing iTunes, temp files and making a clean install).
What build of iTunes are you running at the moment? Do you have a proxy connection? Is Windows fully updated?

I've recently updated to the latest version of iTunes, the two previous versions haven't worked either. I don't have a proxy connection and I'm running Windows 10 with the latest update. Yesterday I figured out that rolling back to 12.3.2.35 works for me too, but does this mean that we have to keep using an iTunes version from 2015? Why doesn't Apple solve this so we can have iTunes fully updated?
