Macbook Air Screen Malfunction

I purchased a macbook air July 20 in preparation for my freshman year in college. Last week I noticed vertical lines running down the right side of my display screen. Assuming this HAD to be some sort of internal issue and that Apple would repair it, I was SHOCKED when I went to the Apple store today for them to tell me it is some sort of an internal LCD Crack & it will cost $469 to repair something that I don't even understand how it happened or how I should be responsible for it. This laptop is literally 4 months old!!  I find this completely ridiculous what a piece of crap they sold me & yeah you know the story.. broke college student now has 1/2 a screen to do work on for the next 3 years!   THANKS FOR NOTHING APPLE!  If anyone out there can help me I truly would appreciate it.
