WIndows 10 Creators update & iCloud

I did a forced upgrade of Windows 10 Creators Update on a PC running iCloud 6.2 and Office 2016.  All other updates up to date.

Totally broke iCloud and made the add in useless.  I deleted iCloud and reinstalled and still no luck.  You'd think MS might test for this before they release.  Naaaaah.  I rolled back with no issues.

I had this same problem initially and I've seen it before with previous updates. What worked for me was:

1. Redownload the latest iCloud for Windows.

2. Uninstall current iCloud

3. Reboot

4. Reinstall iCloud

5. Reboot (it makes you)

6. When iCloud comes up, UNCHECK sync of mail, contacts, and calendar, and apply.

7. Reboot

8. When iCloud comes up, CHECK sync of mail, contacts and calendar, and apply.

At that point, I saw the information being downloaded and I was back up and running on Outlook 2016 with iCloud.

I don't know if this works for everyone but this same little dance has worked for me more than once.

The combination Microsoft / Apple drives me into the madness. Why is there any trouble with an update? Is it so difficult to synchronize a few data?

More to the point, why didn't Apple test this while Windows 10 Creators update was in beta and fix it before release?

Have you done this with the creators update yet ?

Yes, I did it with two PCs running the Creators Update, one running Enterprise and one running Pro. It worked both times.

Prior to doing the rollback last time I wasn't able to find the allowed items section of Defender wherein I could tell it to ignore some files I wanted to maintain running.  Were you able to see such an adjustment in the new Defender ?

I don't know where the setting is now, I probably only use it once per computer

I simply logged out of iCloud for Windows and logged back in again and it reinstalled the plugin to Outlook 2016. I did have Outlook 2016 closed when I did this if that made a difference.

Thanks to Astyanax3 for a fix to this problem!  My Outlook 2013 and iCloud are now working with Windows 10 Creators Update.

The fix from Astyanax3 was:

"I simply logged out of iCloud for Windows and logged back in again and it reinstalled the plugin to Outlook 2016. I did have Outlook 2016 closed when I did this if that made a difference."

This procedure worked for me (in addition to steps mentioned explicitly in Middle Age Hack's post, my step #0 was to sign out of iCloud).

Given that this problem was known weeks before, it was reckless of Microsoft on Microsoft Update Tuesday of 9 May to offer the Creators Update to people with iCloud installed.  Unfortunately that has been the history of the iCloud / Outlook relationship.

I don't know whether Apple or Microsoft is more responsible for this situation, but shame on both of them for how bad the situation has been, repeatedly.
