I accidentally moved a local snapshot how to de...

Hey Community,

kind of a tricky dumb situation I put myself into. For work I had to do some mail backups with A LOT of mails and some of them were faulty as well. Kaspersky alarmed like 50 times in less than 5minutes. And it kept alarming. So I deleted all the faulty files and Kaspersky kept on going because macOS put all these files into a local snapshot.

As I did not want these files to get backed up to my time machine - I stoped the backup which macOS was preparing and tried to delete the local backup. My fault I just opened the folder and moved it to the trash. But then I realized I wasn't able to empty the trash as "I haven't got the permissions to delete this file"
So I tried to move it back > also no permissions. Now I got this Folder on my Desktop and I can't delete it and I can't move it. The file is called "Macintosh HD@snap-9105939" It is displayed as a disk/harddrive. I tried to eject but it did not work. What should I do?

Thanks in advance.

Kaspersky is a highly suspect Russian application. Remove it.

Hi,

TM might be messed up for good, but you can try deleting the "snap" using the following methods:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201583

or

1. Open Terminal (in Applications, Utilities).

2. Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window (or type it exactly as follows):

sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*

3. Press Return.

4. Type in your password when asked (note: you will not see anything being entered as you type your password).

5. Hit Return.

6. Wait until the process finishes/the Terminal prompt returns.

7. Quit Terminal.

Thanks for your reply!
What does this command do? (deleting the trash?)
Should I leave the snapshot on the desktop or should I put it back into the trash?

thanks a lot!

You said you couldn't empty the trash. Put it in the trash, then this should work to empty it, but as I said, there's no telling what state your TM backup will be in. All you can do is let it try another backup (or tell it to Back Up Now) and see if it works. I know of no way to insert it back into the TM backup folder.
