Charge via USB A to C Adapter

I recently broke my USBc cable that came w my 2016 MBP.  My computer ran out of battery and needed as alternative urgently. I was only able to get a usb a to c cable. Will putting an usb a to c adapater on the A end of the cable should make it function as a charging cable w my factory power adapter?

Tricky question. I don't have a definitive, official answer, but I do have one based on the technology involved...

 

Ultimately what you're describing would allow for charge to travel in the right direction... But the non-C version of USB supports such a low maximum charge that it would be essentially useless to power the MBP or its battery.
