Macbook pro (2017) struggling to edit video?

I have a new 2017 Macbook Pro that I bought for video editing on Final Cut Pro X.

I am having a hard time with how slow the mac is at the moment.

I am editing 4K from a Panasonic GH4.

After importing the the video files and putting them on the time line the clips will need to render - the wait time for this is fair but every time I am to re edit the clip it will always need to render again and again with a longer wait time that will really slow down my work flow and the same with every subsequent clip added to the timeline.

macOS High Seirra version 10.13

2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 (7th gen)

Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

Graphics: Radeon Pro 560 4 GB

Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

528gb SSD

I have updated to the newest OS as far as I know.

Were my expectations too high? I know of some pro film makers that use the exact same Macbook.

Does anyone else have any issues with editing 4K video on a mac with the same or similar spec?
