Low resolution for 2012 MacBrook Pro Retina con...

Hi all,

I am trying to connect my mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina to a 4K LG monitor I recently bought. The exact monitor is

LG 27UD58-B 27" UHD 4K IPS LED.

I first tried to connect to the monitor through HDMI but I was only able to achieve 1920x1080. I did some research and saw that the max resolution output for mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retinas is 2k (2560x1440) through DisplayPort. I bought an AmazonBasics mini Displayport to Displayport cable but am still getting the same 1920x1080 resolution. I tried to download some utilities to force the 2560x1440 resolution but that looks much worse than 1080p/1920x1080.

Any ideas on what I can do? Is it the monitor? There was no Mac driver available for this LG monitor.
