Unable to connect two Macs I use

I use a Mac Book Air as well as an iMac. Using my iMac, I am trying without success to access my MacBook Air's hard disk in order to share files from one to the other. Let me say that I'm trying to access the MBAir as a registered user and the system refuses the password I use for my MBAir.
