AirPods to MacBook Pro Connection Issues

Hardware Used: 1.) MacBook Pro 15" 2017 W/ Touchbar

2.) AirPods

 

Software Used: macOS Sierra

Version 10.12.6

 

Hello - The issue I am having is the connection quality when connecting my AirPods to my MacBook Pro. I will open the bluetooth preferences window and hold down the sync button on the back of my AirPods case with my AirPods in the case. My MacBook will find the AirPods and I press the button to "pair" the devices. Once paired I will put my AirPods in and play some sort of media. Either an MP3 via iTunes, an mp3 I have bounced from Logic Pro X onto my desktop or even a youtube video from my browser. The issue I am having is when the audio starts playing it may play in clear audio at first, but then silent.. and the audio will start back up again and it will be completely in Mono. Terrible quality that sounds totally flat. I have fixed this problem before by having to "forget" the device ( AirPods) and re-sync them again in the case. At that point they will play Clear audio until I shut my MacBook or take my EarPods out. When I return to my computer and put my AirPods back in they will sync back up, but the audio quality is very poor again. As I stated before it sounds like everything goes completely mono. Do you have any suggestions or idea if this is a user error or software or hardware error? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
