how do i get my passcode to update my Ipad??

It's the same passcode you unlock the device with.

What passcode are you trying to update?  If your looking to change the passcode on your ipad that you use to login to your ipad, you need to go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and change it there.  If your talking about your Apple ID password then if you update that on the site, when you go to login to something that uses your Apple ID, and it will be instant.  You do not have a way of changing the passcode on the iPad that you use to log in to it without first logging in to it and changing the passcode on it locally.

It is not, it is a code that apple sends you when you upgrade the software. I can't get them to send me the passcode.  It is a six digit number.  Thank you for your suggestion, that is the first thing i tried.

The 6 digit code that Apple sends you doesn't come as a mail or text or anything like that.  It's a popup that you get on other devices that you have attached to the same Apple ID.  It's immediate, you'll get it right away, it's part of the Two-Factor login security.  You'll need to have your other devices by you so you can get the code and then punch it in
