Try this route.

Open the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks app. ... Scroll to the bottom of page.

If you're not signed in, tap Sign In and enter your Apple ID and password.

If you have a credit balance, you'll see it under your Apple ID.

On iOS 11 since the old method above no longer works in the App Store, you can tap on your account picture at the top right of any of the tabs, and your balance will be displayed under your account name in light gray text.
