How to transfer files

Good morning community. Considering replacing my mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a new model. What cable do I need to transfer files/accounts via migration assistant? I haven’t done this in years and when I did I used flash drives and email to move files from Windows OS to OSX now Mac OS. Wouldn’t consider going back to Windows even if it was free.
