2016 Macbook Pro 15” defective keyboard

I have Macbook Pro 2016 touch bar 15” which I bought in January 2017 which is specially specification.

The problem is I had the same key repeating issue with “N” and “B” key.

Just the “N” and “B” key have the problem , sometimes I press one time, then it will repeat twice.

I had try to change settings in system preferences, drag the delay until repeat slider to close how long to wait before the character begins repeating and the problem still happened.

It’s big problem in when I set some password , it will make me have mistake.

I called the AppleCare about 4-6 times and the only thing they can do is have me send it to maintenance store which have cooperation with Apple and shortest distance to me.

I have try to go to the maintenance store , and the can do is talk to me to send it back and leave my Macbook Pro within 14 working days to check and maintenance it.

First time I went to #1 maintenance store, the servicer said “ they have no maintenance staff , they just can receive the problem product and sent to someone maintenance engineer who is cooperation with them(maintenance store).

I really surprise the answer “ someone maintenance engineer who is cooperation with them”, I can’t believe it and I even don’t sure the maintenance engineer is good skill or not.

Second time I went to #2 maintenance store, the servicer said “I have the maintenance staff but you must leave the Macbook Pro about 7-14 working days to let maintenance staff to check and fix”, then I ask the servicer can the maintenance staff check it first and let me know the really problem and decide to leave the Macbook Pro or not.

The servicer said they can’t do it because they just can receive it and the maintenance staff can’t check my Macbook Pro on the spot.

And I beg and said if after check the Macbook Pro the problem really be keyboard , can I take my Macbook Pro back when maintenance staff wait for spare parts, because I need the Macbook Pro to work. Then the servicer said it can’t and this rule is from Apple , and said to me “ if you can receive the rule , you can go to other maintenance store to fix.” .

I really can’t believe it and that’s impossible, the AppleCare service is that?

After I have call the AppleCare more than 2 times , until now I have not resolve my Macbook Pro problem.

And I had go to maintenance store more than 3 times.

I don’t know how to do and I need the help and suggestion to decide choice fix method.



If it's a keyboard problem, there's not much we can do to help. Physical work needs to be done. You can use an external keyboard, if you can't wait the 14 days, or until you can afford the time.



In fact I am afraid if I send the Macbook pro to maintenance , would the problem can solved?

I think that’s my big worried.

I think I will make the time to send my Macbook pro to maintenance store to fix, but I want to ask everybody do you have the same problem?



I don't think you'll find many folks with the same problem. Any problem can be fixed, Apple should be able to give you an estimate for the repair after they look at it.

Same exact issue with my MacBook Pro 2016 with touch bar. Took it to the genius bar today, and they didn't even finish running diagnostics b/c they said it was "for sure a hardware problem".  They also told me that I had to mail my computer, and that i wouldn't have it back for at least 7 days.  I'm a graduate student in a largely online program - I literally cannot be without my computer that long b/c I can't have the software I need on multiple computers at once.  Then they told me to wait until my school break (which is after my warranty expires), so they said that I could mail it in for 2 weeks and "maybe it'll be covered, maybe it'll cost a few hundred dollars - you won't know until you get it back and figure out if it was fixed or not".  After that useless conversation with the Apple "geniuses", I called customer care.  The customer care people did a screen share with me to try and see if my problem was somehow software related, and not surprisingly, they said it was a hardware issue.  Luckily, the person on the phone was super helpful and nice and tried to facilitate an appointment at a different Apple store to try and see if I can get it repaired on the spot (or faster than 7 days), although it would have been more helpful if the Apple store would have cooperated and been able to tell us if they even do repairs in-store (the store's response was: "we cannot disclose that information"..seriously?).  Anyways, this has been the absolute worst Apple experience by far.  Hopefully someone has been to a helpful Apple store (if one exists) and can share any solutions they've learned.
