Removing track number from song title

Has anyone found a solution to the annoying problem of iTunes adding the track number to the title of the song? Why is this done anyway?

It's adding a track number to the title of the song or adding a track number to the filename?

To the file name.

That's done so that the songs will arrange in the correct order in the file system when sorted by name.  If there were no track number, the songs would sort alphabetically, regardless of the order on the original CD. It shouldn't be a problem - the file names are not generally visible unless you go looking for them, since you normally would interact with the tracks in an iTunes browser rather than with the files directly.  what's the issue?

Filenames are corrupted for export to other programs!  Itunes should sort tracks by their track numbers, not using the filenames!
