Text Message Forwarding Problem
Several weeks ago I purchased a new MacBook Pro. I used Migration Assistant to copy the data and apps off of my 2012 iMac (which is running Yosemite, for what it's worth).
I'd like to forward text messages from my iPhone 7 to both the iMac and MacBook Pro. However, try as I might (deleting iMessage accounts on both computer and re-activating them, deleting the iMessage account on my iPhone, and reactivating), I can only get one computer at a time to show up in the "Text Message Forwarding" window of my iPhone. Depending on which computer was last sighed into, only it will show up in Text Message Forwarding.
I'm suspecting that there is a setting/flag on both the iMac and MacBook Pro that is the same. I've changed the computer name, under System Preferences>Sharing, but that doesn't help to differentiate the computers for text msg sharing purposes...
Thanks for your thoughts/clues as to solve this odd problem!
Bob
Hi,
Did the Migration involve the Mac's Keychain and/or the ~/Library/Preferences and the whole lot to IDS .plists that refer to connections to other devices ?
The Macs and the iPhone have to be on the same LAN.
If there is a second routing device such as a device to make part of it WiFi that device cannot issue separate IP numbers (or all the devices need to be in the same Subsection).
One issue with the Keychin coming across is that it contains and IDS key that uses the Serial Number of the Mac to Login to the iMessages Servers.
Two computers can have the same Serial Number so the Apple ID from one device can get blocked by the iMessages server.
If you are able to send iMessages from either and preferably at the same time then the computers are logging in.

Hi Ralph...
Thanks for your prompt response...
I believe that the migration did involve the imac's keychain...
The macs were on the same lan, however the imac was connected to ethernet, and the macbook pro was connected to wifi (both via the Time Capsule).
For what it's worth, I've connected both macs to only my wifi, and disabled, and re-enabled their iMessage accounts. Interestingly, now after disabling my iPhone 7's iMessage account on this wifi network, it seems to be hung on reactivation... I've turned it off and on, but it's still hung, displaying a message "Waiting for activation..."
Well, I've got an appointiment to get to, and will have to trouble shoot this all some more later...
