MacBook Air screen does not come on at start

The  screen on my wife's 2014 MacBook Air,13.3/1.4GHZ/4GB/128GB flash running Yosemite remained black at startup. Could hear tone when power button pressed and faint lightening of screen for a second then nothing. Worked fine yesterday.
