Dock connector

I have an ipad3 or 3G and I want to listen to audio so I go to the music app press play on a song then I don't hear anything so I turn up the volume still don't hear anything then I think it is Bluetooth connected to my headphones, nope. So I check airplay and it says it's connected to "dock connector" and I'm like what. Then to ruin it even more there is no option to disconnect and connect to my iPads speaker.

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
