Son installed pirated Logic Pro X

Just found out that my son and his friend installed a pirated version of Logic Pro X on the MacBook that he and I share at home. I read him the riot act and removed it, but apparently that wasn't enough. I am now getting notifications from the App Store than an update for Logic Pro X is available, but it's associated with some email address I've never heard of (I'm assuming that's the email address linked to the pirated version). And here's how I first found out--the update notice appeared ON MY MAC AT WORK where the pirated software was never installed. How in the world is that happening? How is a piece of pirated software on my home Mac (now removed, supposedly) calling for an update on my work Mac? Needless to say this is very frustrating!

I want to get rid of this nightmare as quickly as possible. And my son will be saving his allowance to purchase a licensed version when this is all done. Hopefully he's learned a lesson from all of this, but I don't want to have to wipe and reinstall my whole system because of it.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

if you are using the same Apple ID across the two systems you will need to either remove the work system from that ID

this should be the only association your two macs have with sharing an account.

It's impossible that the App Store asks you to update a program that isn't installed on the computer, especially with a different email.

I think you'll have to reinstall macOS in any case to avoid problems.

But really? You're this upset for something this unsignificant? Wow.... just wow...

Have a good day

I shouldn't be upset about my son stealing software? To me that's a big deal, especially if something nasty got installed along with it that's messing up my system. Sorry if something like that isn't a big deal to you, but to each their own I guess.

Have a good day.

Thanks for your reply.

I use my Apple ID on my work system so I can access my Apple Music account and listen while I work. Is there a way to tackle this without disabling that access?

I guess part of my concern is that by installing pirated software, something else got installed on my Macbook that has somehow spread to my work Mac. Is that possible?

If I decide to wipe the hard drive and start over completely, will a Time Machine backup still retain whatever is causing the strange update flag (malware or no)? Or maybe I'd have to reinstall all my software again?

Thanks again.

Well wow just wow man... like wow!
