I received an email advising an App Store purchase I did not make. It is also referred me to a link asking for personal
information. Is this a real Apple notification or a fraud.
More than likely a phishing attempt. You can tell by the email address it was sent from, and how they addressed you. If it is something like, Dear Customer, or Dear and then your email address, then for sure it is a phishing attempt. Apple will address you by name.
See this support document for help in identifying fraudulent emails and other messages. Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support
You can forward it to Apple as an attachment to reportphishing@apple.com, and then delete it.
