Virus on my iPad air 2

I use Google as my search engine and not Safari on my iPad air 2. I was online a couple days ago and a pop-up appeared, stating that I had picked up a virus from a website I had previously visited. Soon it would be affecting my phone. Is this even possible?

No. It's a scam, nothing more. Ignore.

No. Its a scam. There are no known viruses that can affect an iPad. 

Thank you, I just closed out of it. I just wanted to see if there was any kinda truth to it.
