send & receive files via Airdrop

My Airdrop on iMac does not work with my iphone.  The AirDrop window does not show my nearby iphone and misses "Allow me to be discovered by: Everyone" and "Don't see who you're looking for?" below AirDrop lets you share instantly with people nearby.  Instead "To share with someone using a Mac, ask them to go to AirDrop in the Finder." replaces the missing sentences.  The iPhone is working properly and works with other MacBook Air correctly.  Can someone help diagnose the issue/setting.  Thanks!

In order to send/receive files from an iDevice, you need to have a Mac 2012 or later:

Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support

So, if yours is a 2009 as shown in your profile, it will not work - you can send Mac to Mac, but not to an iDevice.
