Watch videos on iOS without Internet

If you lose Internet connection while using the YouTube app on iOS, you may see an error message in the video player or Home, Trending, Subscriptions, or Account tabs. If the error appears while you're watching a video, you won't be able to use the app even if the tabs seem to be working correctly.

To resume using the app

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
  2. If you're not connected to Wi-Fi:
    • Go into the Settings app on your device.
    • Check that Cellular Data is turned on for YouTube.
    • Try disabling and re-enabling your network connection.
  3. In the YouTube app, pull down to refresh the screen.
  4. Restart the app, if needed.

Use offline if you are a YouTube Red member

If you're signed into your YouTube Red account, you can watch videos that you've previously saved to offline. You'll find these videos in the Account tab. Some actions, like commenting and liking, are not available when you’re offline.

Watch videos offline on mobile in select countries

In select locations, certain videos on the YouTube mobile app are available to "Add to Offline" for playback during periods of low or no connectivity. You'll find these videos in the Account tab.

You must be signed in to use the Add to Offline feature. Some features, like commenting and liking, are only available when your device is online.

Videos can be played offline for up to 48 hours. After that, you'll need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network to allow the app to check for changes to the video or its availability.
