Get help reading text on a screen
If you need help reading text on a screen, you can turn on accessibility settings for a few Google products in My Account.
Turn screen reader on or off
Note: This setting applies only to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drawings on a browser, like Chrome. When you use these products, a screen reader can read text on your screen aloud.
For this setting to work, you need to have a screen reader, like NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, or ChromeVox.
To change your screen reader setting:
- Go to My Account. You might need to sign in to your Google Account.
- In the "Account preferences" section, select Accessibility.
- Select Accessibility again.
- Next to "Screen reader," turn the switch on or off.
If you turned on "Screen reader," you might need to follow extra steps to set up your screen reader for Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drawings. Get the setup steps.
Turn high-contrast colors on or off
Note: This setting applies only to the Google Developers site on a browser, like Chrome. On that site, high-contrast colors can help screen text stand out more clearly.
To change your high-contrast colors setting:
- Go to My Account. You might need to sign in to your Google Account.
- In the "Account preferences" section, select Accessibility.
- Select Accessibility again.
- Next to "High-contrast colors," turn the switch on or off.
