“Password incorrect” error
Sometimes you’ll see a "Password incorrect" error when you sign in to Google with a third-party app, like iPhone’s Mail app. If you’ve entered your password correctly but you’re still getting the error, here are the most common reasons for the message. Follow the steps to get into your account.
Your device or app might not support Google’s security standardsApps that don’t support the latest security standards include:
- The Mail app on an iPhone or iPad that has an outdated operating system
- The Mail app on a Windows phone before the 8.1 release
- Some Mail apps not built by Google that come with your phone
- Some Desktop mail clients, like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
To keep your account more secure, we might stop less secure apps from opening your account. If so, you have two choices:
- Update to a more secure app that’s up to our security standards. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
- If you want to continue using an app you're familiar with, go to Allow less secure apps. To let these apps use your Google Account, select "Turn off." We don't recommend this option because it could make it easier for someone to get into your account.
