Apple RAID Card not seen after 10.10.4 upgrade

Hello I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010  (MacPro5,1) with an Apple RAID Card. Today after upgrading to from 10.10.3 to 10.10.4 the RAID volumes are not mounting anymore. When I tried to launch the Apple RAID Utility I get a message that says 'Waiting for Apple RAID Card...'

When I looked in the system profiler under Hardware RAID it says:

This system doesn't contain any supported hardware RAID devices. If you installed hardware RAID devices, make sure you installed them properly.

But under PCI it says:

Card                              Type                                   Driver Installed                Slot

pci106.b8a                    RAID Controller                  Yes                                  Slot-4

The computer did crashed during the upgrade but continued the installation after it restarted. Could that have cause some corruption on the RAID card?

Thank you for any insight.

Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

Do you have another bootable version of OSX you can try to see if that sees the RAID card?

If you had a crash during the upgrade, you may have to re-install Mac OS X.  as an interim step, you could try installing the 10.10.4 combo update:

Hello Illass,

Resetting the SMC and PRAM did not help. I actually had a clone of the system drive with 10.10.3 and I did try starting up from that. This was the version where the card was working fine before and it got the same messages as I posted in my initial question. I'm beginning to suspect that the card went bad. The RAID drives are not even detected by the regular Disk Utility. It's just like they are not there. But if I remove the RAID card those drives are seeing right away by the system and it wants to initialize them. So in some capacity when the card is in there it is seeing (as shown in the system profiler). I wonder what the message from the RAID Utility 'waiting for RAID card' is? I wonder if it's a battery issue.

Hello Grant,

I am downloading the combo right now see if that does anything but I doubt it. I went back to 10.10.3 on a cloned drive of my system drive and the RAID card was having the same issues as when I did the last upgrade.  thank you.

It sounds like it may be a Hardware issue that just surfaced, by accident, when you went to upgrade.

Now, I believe so. I tried the cloned system drive with 10.10.3. I did the combo update like you suggested to 10.4.4 (with no issues during install), and I have left the mac on all night to see if it was a battery recharge issue but I am still getting the same "waiting for Apple RAID card..." message.

I can find a working Apple RAID card on ebay for under $100. Just so I can retrieve the data from the RAID drives. Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

Did you managed to recover your files from the RAID? I have the same problem now and it happened also after a system upgrade from Sierra to High Sierra.
