iCloud on Windows Dismal

My Experiences with iCloud Drive have been dismal if not to say the least.

First off, my hard drive crashed on my PC, thats what cloud is for right?

Only to find that my entire iCloud Drive decided that it was deleted so it synced and deleted everything.

I went to restore and found 10000+ items, said restore all but it failed.

I selected 10 items and clicked restore, that worked.

So I painfully, selected, manually, batches of 100-200 at a time and it would restore, anything more and i would get the error and have to start again.

So I managed after a few days of long hours to restore everything and sync it all back to my PC.

Now I notice my PC ran out of space and its the staging folder that had 100gigs in it.

I've backed up my icloud drive folder, uninstalled, deleted all those staging files, reinstalled and started again with the icloud drive contents copied back.

After 1 day, the staging folder is again at 1gig and growing.

Since posting this, I cleared my staging folder and it has now grown to 3.48GB and hasn't synced anything new.

Its been saying downloading 2 new items for a week, nothing has come through. Its not my internet as I have a 100mb connection

So I think I've finally sorted this.

I noticed that new stuff wasn't syncing and it was always stuck uploading 2 files and creating staging file galore. So I decided to copy my icloud folder, turn off icloud, turn it back on and copy it back. I copied it as it deletes the data when you turn off icloud drive. Then it said it was uploading 25000+ files. took about 8 hours to get its ducks in a row and didn't actually upload or download anything. Everything working now, no more staging files or anything and its syncing anything I add now.

Correction, on the next restart, iCloud suddenly said it was uploading 11K files.

Nothing has changed but it still thinks its uploading.

Staging Folder grew to 56GB and I noticed my internet usage was 30 odd gigs over the weekend.

Not acceptable Apple!! I have disabled iCloud for now while I investigate dropbox.

And so it gets worse, tried turning on iCloud Drive after a week.

Everything said it was updated, there were no changes on my PC or the cloud made and after a week, its consumed 50Gb of my data, 20Gb in 1 day! nothing has changed, turned it off again.

Hi,

I have the very same problem. First noticed a couple of weeks ago when my spare 90GB of hard drive space on my Windows Laptop disappeared (all but 300MB). I found that the C:\Users\Baggins\AppData\Local\Apple Inc\iCloudDrive\Staging folder contained almost 90GB.

I deleted the content on the 10th September and all appeared ok until today. When in I noticed that the C:\Users\Baggins\AppData\Local\Apple Inc\iCloudDrive\Staging folder had grown again to 30GB.

I'm not sure what is happening but I have no option but to delete iCloud otherwise it's going to continue to consume all available drive space.
