Do I need to install PPAPI plug

Currently using NPAPI Plug-in version 17.0.0.169 with Safari in Yosemite 10.2.2.  I noticed there is an option to install a PPAPI plug in.  Is that just for Chrome (which I don't use), or do I need it for Safari or Firefox?  A few sites have indicated I need to update my Flash Player, but system preferences says I an up to date on NPAPI, but that PPAPI is not installed.

I know your answer was over two years ago (and things change ; ) but I had this question today (08-2017) and saw your answer for Opera and using the NPAPI Flash Player. I also took your helpful suggestion to look at the Adobe Flash web site, where it appears that the PPAPI Flash Player is (now) required for Opera.
