Upgrading software on old iPads

I have been told that old iPads (original) cannot update iOS to the current version. Is this true?

Can you please tell me how do I then stop iOS 10.3.3 uploading itself automatically on my iPad Mini Retina as it can not run it? 

 

it is most annoying every time to have to delete it, only for it to pop back and ask to be installed.  I then have to decline before deleting it.  And same again in a few days.

If your iPad is allowing you to update to iOS 10.3.3, then you can upgrade wirelessly over the Air using Wifi or upgrade to iOS 10.3.3 by connecting up to a computer using the latest iTunes.

Your iPad Mini must be a later Mini 2 or Mini 3 model.

Do you NOT want to upgrade your iPad Mini's iOS?
