"NO INTERNET Needs to connect to internet"
This pop up shows on my laptop every time I open my Macbook Air. However, the internet and my connections are fine. Any idea how to stop this? Thanks!
Does the pop-up give any indication what app it's from? Is it well written and legit or does it look a little sleazy (the latter might indicate that you have some type of malware)?
A screenshot would be helpful — when you see the pop-up, press Shift-⌘-4 and click and drag the area around the pop-up. When you let go of the trackpad, the screenshot will be saved to your desktop. Stick it in a post here and that'll help us out a bit.
Sorry for the delay and thank you for your help! Here is a screenshot:
Getting the same thing, any luck? I don't see any other replies or threads
Nothing yet, Dennis. Still have it too.
Tom, Did you ever get a response about whether it's malware, and/or how to get rid of it? I have a MacBook Pro and still have it pop up every day...
I get that same message and it started appearing after I had my computer repaired at the apple store in Eastview Mall. They had to reinstall the operating system. Everything works fine but it's just annoying to keep getting that message and I haven't had time to take it back to the store.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so thanks for the screenshot!
Given:
- the lack of attention to formatting,
- the poor grammar and capitalization, and
- the lack of information
in that popup, I can assure you it is not a part of your standard Apple fare. Actually, it's rather suspicious.
When the popup is in the foreground (click somewhere on it to make sure it is), does an app name appear at the top left beside the Apple menu? That would give a great clue as to what's going on here.
Could you please run EtreCheck and paste the entire contents of its report on here? Download it at EtreCheck.com. It's quite legit and is well-used around here on the Communites, so if you have qualms about downloading it, just do a search on the Communites for "EtreCheck" and have a look at the info it'll be giving us.
That's interesting, was that an official Apple Store or a third-party store that happens to repair Apple computers?
Did you download any apps or software within the weeks before or just after you had your computer repaired? Does this popup only appear when Safari is open?
If that's the case, try following the steps in this support article:
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203987
iEvan 3.0,
I get the message even when Safari is closed.
I thought I'd gotten rid of it last week but it is back.
Thanks!
Any update? i have the exact same pop up. Not linked to Safari. Thanks.
I'm out of ideas. Apple used to have a support document on how to remove software that serves up pop-up ads and stuff, but it seems to have been replaced with the one I linked above — which helpfully says to update to El Capitan. If you've already done that and restarted your computer (apparently the OS removes malware on login), it would seem that's all that can be done. The Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store might be a bit more helpful …
I had the same problem but appear to have it fixed now. The app is "Proapp", a utility from docx-pdf and apparently a part of that awful mess from shroomcourt. I found it by using Activity Monitor and looking under the Energy tab. There was an uninstall utility that I then found through Finder and that seems to have solved the problem.
I hate browser hijacking and malware.
I too found Proapp running but was not as smart as you in finding the uninstall utility. Do you remember where it was or what it was called (or how you found it)?
Thanks!
Go to Applications; find shroomcourt; run uninstall app in that program. That seems to have worked for me.
