Where is the disc drive on my new iMac?

Just purchased a iMac (was pc user) Where is the disc drive on my new iMac?

You didn't check? The new iMacs don't have optical drives. You can purchase just about any USB external that will work just fine.

If it really makes you unhappy you can return your iMac for a refund if you're within 14 days of purchase. I don't agree with it but Apple believes that optical drives are obsolete.

If you need a DVD drive you can purchase an external drive. If you want it to match your iMac perfectly, Apple sells one otherwise any USB external DVD drive would be fine.

i did the same thing -- bought a shiny new iMac (used to have one; gave it to my ex), then spent a few minutes after i unboxed it at home scouring it for a disc drive before realizing it didn't have one!  i was flabbergasted as i'd planned to play my favorite cd's on it, as i used to do (and as i still do at work). the salesman at the store didn't think to mention it so i was rather ticked off after the fact.   grrrr...

Um, why would someone who is new to Apple, say coming from using Windows OS all their lives, or even someone coming from an old Mac, think to check if one of the most basic features of a computer was present?  I'm sure you didn't mean to sound condescending, but you did.  And were I not inclined to feel as such, I would have felt foolish myself.

But thank you for your answer.  I believe Apple should feel foolish for not making it more apparent to those of us who are not avid Apple-philes.

I have just fount this out myself today and its 2015!!!
Gutted but probably will buy the external drive now...more money!!

Why would someone who can afford a new Mac not bother to check that it has what he needs, it only takes a glance. And why do you expect Apple to continue to fit ancient tech to their equipment especially as time has moved on?

Return the Mac for a refund if you can, then buy something that meets your needs.

I agree its not our fault Apple should make it clearer.

It is already perfectly clear, if you read the spec, or looked at one you would know. If you just assume that it will be as you think it should be, all bets are off.

Why would anyone spend well over $1000 and not bother to check what was included. iMac's have not included SuperDrives for the past 3+ years and Apple has been very open about what they include. Typical users don't use SuperDrives any longer, however there are some holdouts.

I did mean to sound condescending. It's Inconceivable to me that anyone would spend as much as an iMac costs and not know what they are and aren't getting.

BTW.....why did you feel it necessary to drag up a nearly two year old thread?
