iMac update stuck

I set off the latest update omg my iMac and it has been stuck at the end of the resart bar for 4 hours now what should I do?

What exactly is the 'latest update omg'?

I am afraid I don't know the version number I update whenever there's an upgrade so it's the latest I remember reading it was for compatibility

Well, as I said try restarting. It should pick up from where it left off.

Your specs say you are running 10.7.4 which was years ago, so it looks like you haven't updated your profile information.

The iMac is my wife's, the system version 10.12.6 . I have tried restarting and it picks up the installation but stops and stays there at the end of the loading bar. I am trying again now

There is no update (the latest version is 10.12.6), so now it becomes more important to know what exactly you were installing when it all went wrong.

If you are reading 10.12.6 from Apple menu > About this Mac, then it seems the the update has installed, regardless of the loading bar.

No unfortunately I read that off my daughter iMac which up to date to give you na idea of where the computer is at upgrade wise. I look to see the update and there was only one so I resume it was the latest. I can't get into the menu at all

Try restarting in Safe Mode and see if it will complete:

I dont understand the connection between these 2 computers, normally the version on your daughters has nothing to do with the version on any other Mac.
