has anyone lost their photos after changing the...

I changed the email address on my apple ID because it was under my college address and I no longer had access.  After I did that, I lost all of the photos that I had backed up to the cloud under that email address.  They are still on my Apple TV so I know they still exist somewhere, but no one can seem to help me get them back on my phone.  If anyone has had something similar happen and got it resolved, please let me know
