running a 1440p monitor on MBP13“ early 2011

Dear all,

I am struggling to run a 1440p monitor (BenQ BL2420PT) of my MBP13“ early 2011.

According to Apple my MB should be able to output a video signal up to 2560x1600.

I managed to run the monitor just fine at 60Hz 1080p via HDMI using a MDP to HDMI adapter. However, that is not the resolution I am looking for.

Connecting the MBP via MDP to full sized DP cable (no adapter) won’t work at all. The monitor does not recognize a signal, no matter what resolution I set on the MB. The MB is recognizing that it is connected to a BenQ with the native resolution of 2560x1440p.

In the monitors menu I can choose between DP 1.1 & DP 1.2, but neither works at any resolution. The monitor always says „no signal“.

Anyone who has a setup like mine working?

Any suggestions what I can do? Should the HDMI be able to handle more than 1080p?

Thanks,

Frido

MBP is running 10.11.6
