What Happened to OS X Sierra?  Removed fro...

I am currently using OS X 10.12.6 - my hard disk crashed and I want to install it again.

Recovery Mode is unable to link to a successful web link to complete the OS X Recovery clean install.

A check of the App Store shows that OS X Sierra is NO LONGER available!  There are 10.12.6 Updates and Combo updates available, but they look for the original installation to update it.  The APP Store says "This App is no longer available in the US" .

There are lots of links to OS X High Sierra, but none to the OS X Sierra Installer - some bright spark has wiped it off the App Store and the Apple Web Site.  El Cap is still available but not Sierra!

That is how all old OS's are treated. When the new one is released, the old one is removed.

El Capitan only still exists since users of Snow Leopard or Lion must install it first before installing High Sierra.

In the future, you should download the installer for the OS before it is replaced so that you can create a bootable installer if needed.

When trying to install from Recovery, did you use Internet Recovery and erase the hard drive completely, or did you just use regular Recovery and erase just the startup volume (Macintosh HD)? In the past, the latter method would install whatever OS the Recovery partition was created with. The former would allow you to install the OS that shipped on the Mac. I haven't tried either method (I can't for Sierra or anything else as I don't have a boot drive for any of them).
