Why won't my iPod touch update iOS?

My iPod Touch shows iOS 9.3.5 and that it is the latest. I get the same response when my iPod Touch is connected to iTunes. Running 10.12.6 on Mac with latest everything Apple.

It depends on what generation of the iPod Touch you have is. If it's a 5th generation model (pre July 2015) then that is the current iOS for that model as it's no longer supported for new iOS updates.

Which iPod model do you have?

Tell us what you find in Settings > General > About > Model > ?

Only the latest iPod touch 6th generation can update to iOS 11.x
